The 53 year-old Mimi was fond of bagels.
One of the oldest elephants in the US has been euthanized by zoo officials. Mimi, the Denver Zoo elephant was 53.

DENVER, CO (Catholic Online) - Mimi was said to be in declining health and had been in hospice care, permitted to roam her exhibit at will and to eat as many bagels as she liked, which was a favorite treat.

The zoo has not said just how many of the treats she consumed before she was put down.

The decision to let her go came as she lost the ability to move her trunk and had difficulty standing. She was put to sleep Tuesday evening.

Zoo officials say the decisions wasn't easy, but it was the right one.

The zoo still has three other elephants, but Mimi will certainly be missed.
