Missy following her rescue.
A dog left on a mountantop to die will now live with her rescuer after the owner agreed to give her up.

DENVER, CO (Catholic Online) - Anthony Ortolani, 31, was charged with animal cruelty after he left the dog to die. The dog named Missy, is a German Shepherd/ Rottweiler mix. Missy siffered blistered pads and almost died after being abandoned for eight days on the desolate ridge.

Ortolani said he was forced to abandon her to help another friend get down the mountain as a storm moved in.

Ortolani said he loves Missy, but believes it is best to let one of her rescuers keep her.

He will now plead guilty to a lesser violation of a county ordinance.

Ortolani did try to carry the dog down the mountain, but was unable to help his friend. After leaving the mountain, he called the local sheriff's office to repot Missy's stranding.

Ortolani did not return subsequently to rescue her.
